Of course, cross-promotion can come in many different forms. I do admit to dreaming that one day GMTA has its own convention... But! For now, there's other things to think about that Gee-Em Con.
The simplest form of cross-promotion and assistance I can think of, and by far the easiest to set up and fulfill, would be beta-reading and editing. Just reading the manuscript when it's done and polished a little to give some critique, put a red pen to it and cross out the misspellings, maybe suggest a change in the plot here or there. It helps the author out a lot, you get a free book (as well as getting it BEFORE it's even done, which is somehow better), and some will even put you in the back pages as a way of saying thanks! It's not at all time consuming if you do it right; we all read books anyway, right?
Next idea: cover quotes. Best done when you've beta-read someone's upcoming thriller or YA teen drama novel, you can give them a little quote that can go on the back of their cover spread, or the front if there's a good enough spot. Just a little tag like ''Cliché Stunt' is the author's finest moment!' or something like that. It may not be much but it goes a long way. Otherwise if someone wants to get one, they may have to look through their Amazon reviews.
Just my thoughts here ^^;

Love it Reece! Excellent ideas! I agree 100% and that is a great way to help one another out especially since we all don't have the funds to pay for proofreads. Awesome, keep those ideas coming!

Yup! Plus author quotes are great on a cover; customer psychology xD makes them seem so easy to manipulate... Ee-hee-hee-heeeeee!

Reece, I like using beta readers as a way to help my novel flourish. I currently have three beta readers. ALL are successful best selling authors. One has her books being made into movies. I feel that beta readers can help you catch mistakes in the prose long before it is complete. Any help to improve my novels is great. I plan on sending a small questionnaire along with the books for my beta readers to comment on and help me improve my work.
